APERTA APOLOGUES
This time, we look into the nameplate of which Ferrari ties itself to one thing, freedom.

'OPEN'
In Italian, it translates to Aperta.
The feeling of freedom is best tied to the open sky. No restrictions, no barriers, no boundaries. Just endless fluffy clouds and the horizon in the distance awaits.

For many of us, that open air up above is beyond reach, so we settle for something as equally thrilling.

For years, convertible sports cars has been the ultimate sign of “congratulations - you’ve made it” and of course, nothing beats the pride of a proper prancing horse.

So today, we’re looking at some of the most exclusive cars to wear the proud Aperta nameplate, starting from one of the first few cars to wear them.

Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta.
The Golden Ferrari.
The first shake-down has been held at Fiorano. The car, the second in a new Special Projects programme created by Ferrari to meet requests from the most discerning clients and collectors to create truly unique models, is based on the 599 GTB Fiorano.

Edward Walson commissioned the car in 2008, asking Ferrari to build a modern interpretation of the gold covered Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-bodied Ferrari 330 LMB built for the 1968 film Spirits of the Dead.

The result is a road-legal, one-off, modern Ferrari with the look of a one-off movie car from the 1960s, and arguably the first Ferrari with the Aperta nameplate. A literal one-off based on a one-off.

Ferrari SA Aperta.
A homage to Pininfarina.
The Ferrari 599 SA Aperta was a strictly limited, open-top GTO – and is now considered one of the most collectable Ferraris of the 21st century.

It's not only the model's rarity that has pushed values towards hypercar territory, because the 599 SA Aperta is a whole lot more than just a GTB with the top lopped off.

For a start, it benefits from the 661bhp engine from the sublime, ultra-high-performance 599 GTO that began life in the Enzo supercar and was also used in the track-only 599XX.

To put it simply, it’s a 599 GTO with that ‘open top’ flair, without sacrificing performance.

The LaFerrari Aperta
Offerings of freedom.
The craziest of Ferraris now proudly wear the Aperta marque - to each their own symbolizing the spirit of the open sky in different power brackets.
